What We Learned From 50 Dates In 50 States With Matthew Wurnig

What We Learned From 50 Dates In 50 States With Matthew Wurnig

When the world shuts down because of a pandemic what do you do with your time?

Some people took up new hobbies like knitting and jigsaw puzzles. Other adopted dogs and bought trampolines.

Matthew Wurnig took a different route.

Forced inside and with his social life dried up — he took to Tinder.

At first he got his chat on with the local ladies of Huntley, Montana. But being in a rural area in the 44th least populated state in the US, he didn’t exactly have a wealth of women to swipe through.

That changed in April when Tinder offered Tinder Passport for free. Claiming to help ward off loneliness Tinder allowed users to virtually travel anywhere they wanted free for an entire month.

So Matthew virtually hopped around the US swiping through women in every state. But he didn’t feel satisfied simply exchanging a few messages on the app and bonding over how horrible the pandemic was.

So he decided to make things a bit more personal by going on Zoom dates with one woman from every state and shared his journey with his many followers on Tik Tok.

But as restrictions lifted, vaccines rolled out, and his followers bugged him to live vicariously through his charmed bachelor life he took things to the next level.

He decided to go out in person with the women he had dated virtually.

That’s right.

The virtual romance would continue in the real world.

Matt packed up his belongings and set out on a 5-month journey to date one woman in every state.

MegaDating Through The States

What Matt did we at emlovz call MegaDating.

It’s when you date various women at the same time as a shortcut to find someone you’re super compatible with.

MegaDating isn’t about dating for the sake of dating. It’s all about figuring out who you want to be with, improving dating skills, expelling energy, avoiding settling, and ultimately finding someone you really dig.

Since the beginning of his virtual dating journey, Matt has now gone out with 100 women from 50 states.

After season one of 50 Dates 50 States was such a success he decided it was time for round two.

He recently wrapped up season 2 of 50 Dates 50 States.

That’s 100 dates with 100 different women in 2 years.

This is what MegaDating is all about.

But is this a healthy way to date?

There’s no better guy to ask than Matt.

He told us it’s a great way to get exposed to women of all different personalities and backgrounds. He said that only then do you start to really understand who you’re attracted to most and your preferences.

But how do you find all these women to MegaDate?

How Matt Found A Woman To Date In Each State

For season two it was pretty easy. He was so popular he had women apply to be his date.

But that was when he already had a following.

For season one things weren’t so easy.

“As soon as I got a match on Tinder… I’d say “hey Bell I see I matched with you from New Mexico, I’m trying to go on a virtual date with a girl from every state as this thing I created called 50 Dates 50 States I was wondering if you could be my New Mexico date in this series.”

At this point Matt had no following. He didn’t think convincing a girl he had just met to go on a virtual date was going to be easy.

But after a bit of hesitation, 100% of the women he asked agreed to a virtual date.

Matt decided to skip the fluff of asking them where they’re from, hobbies, etc. because he didn’t want to learn about someone through the app. He wanted a much more rich experience of getting to know his matches via Zoom dates.

Even though you’re not going on your own country-wide romantic tour you too can apply this strategy.

Dating app is a misnomer.

They’re more like introduction apps. You can be introduced to a woman but should never date within the app itself.

As quickly as possible do what Matt did and segue the dynamic into the real world.

Ask for her number or use a TDL to ask her on a date then and there.

Tell her you’re looking for ‘x’ and that you don’t want to waste time chatting online and would prefer to meet in person. From there ask her on a date idea she can’t say no to. But what does that look like?

Let’s take a look at Matt’s dates to figure out what an amazing first date looks like.

Best First Date Ideas

Take a look at Matt’s date from by far the sexiest state in the US, South Dakota.

Let’s quickly chronicle the date activities:

  • Shotski with the roomies at 11:30 a.m.
  • Gift exchange, Matt’s date Jayci gifts Matt a SD hat, canned wine, and beer soap (clearly a keeper btw)
  • Jam session to Unwritten by Natasha Bedingfield
  • Ropes course
  • Ice cream and coffee
  • Lawn games
  • Mt. Rushmore
  • Dinner at the pub

This is a comprehensive first date.

What woman wouldn’t be up for a ropes course, ice cream, Mount Rushmore and gifts on a first date?

What Matt does time after time is go on super memorable dates.

But what’s most important is that he always goes on dates that he knows the woman he’s taking out is into. He actually takes multiple dates to play basketball. And why not? They’re both super into basketball so why not do something out of the ordinary and shoot hoops?

When constructing a TDL and asking a woman out, always ask her to do something you know she’ll enjoy. You can easily figure out what a woman is into by reading her bio or asking her a few questions before popping the question. If her bio is barren ask her to tell you something cool about herself or something weird she’s into, then plan a date using the info you just mined.

Also the aforementioned date is a pretty long one.

It’s long, costly, and he goes out with a complete stranger.

Not every guy or woman will want to do that and that’s perfectly fine. Matt shows us that you don’t need to go on a 7-hour first date and do 10 different activities for it to be enjoyable.

We actually recommend on going on relatively short dates that require spending no more than $20.

We do this because if you’re MegaDating you don’t have all the time and money to spend on multiple strangers every week.

If you’re wondering what a bomb first date looks like, check these ideas out.

First Date Mindset

Let’s imagine for a moment that you’ve matched, made great convo online, and have asked her out to a kick-ass date.

That’s awesome. So far so perfect.

Now you’re about to go on your date… how are you feeling?

So many guys are terrified of dating because they have such high expectations. They freak out before dates because they want everything to go perfectly.

So what’s the best way to massacre those butterflies and have an amazing date?

Matt says, “I just think people need to relax. I think people go into these dates and set these bizarre expectations. They creep on SM before and say oh my gosh they do this, he or she is going to be the one.”

Instead her prefers you to just go in it with an open mind, have no expectations, and chill.

A great way to address those date jitters he says is to ditch the dinner date, “all you’re doing is sitting there watching each other eat, judging each other… why don’t we go play mini-golf? We can distract from the conversation while still getting to know each other and then have dinner.”

I 100% subscribe to this idea.

Lighten up the pressure to have this amazing conversation from nothing by revolving the date and conversation around the activity. Things will flow a lot more smoothly if you two are enjoying bowling, hiking, or a graffiti tour.

First Date Energy

Matt’s first date energy is unparalleled.

Watch literally any of Matt’s videos and you’ll see him doing these four things:

  • Smiling incessantly
  • Asking his date questions and genuinely caring about the answers
  • Being positive
  • Being chill AF (Matt has actually been called the most chill guy in America by various outlets)

First dates can be scary for you and her.

The best way to approach them is by just trying to have a little fun. Find whatever connection you two have, vibe on that, and just enjoy getting to know your date.

The easiest way to form a connection is by being laid-back, light-heartened, and confident, things Matt does so freakin’ well on literally all of his dates.

Oh, he’s also a gentleman. He opens doors, offers his coat, pays, and genuinely cares for the women he dates.

For guys thinking good guys always finish last, Matt is viral proof that you’re wrong.
