In 2020, during the height of the pandemic, Tinder rolled out its second most expensive membership, Tinder Platinum.

An odd time to roll out a new dating service while many put their romantic lives on hold, but despite the stuttering start Tinder Platinum now lays claim to one of the most feature-friendly dating app subscriptions on the market.

Platinum users can swipe for eternity, instantly see who likes them, and much more.

Despite the abundance of features, is Tinder Platinum really worth it?

Let’s dive into the features, cost and membership tiers to see if Tinder Platinum is worth the price tag.

Is Tinder Platinum Worth It?

Tinder Platinum Features

As the second most expensive membership, it makes sense that Tinder Platinum comes with a ton of features.

Here is a complete list.

Some of these features are offered via Tinder’s most pocket-friendly subscription, Tinder+, or its mid-range subscription, Tinder Gold.

Here are the features that only Tinder Platinum offers:

• Priority Likes
• Message Before Matching

These are the only two features that Tinder Platinum offers that the next most comprehensive subscription, Tinder Gold, does not offer. To be clear, Tinder Gold offers just two fewer features and starts at $39.99, whereas Tinder Platinum starts at $49.99.

So what are these two features?

Priority Likes is straightforward. Every time you like someone your profile will be bumped to the front of the queue. That means every time a woman you liked logs in, she will see your profile first (although it will still compete with other Tinder Platinum members for the top spot.

If you live in a big city and only swipe on a handful of women every week, this feature could expedite the time it takes to find a match.

Message Before Matching is the other Tinder Platinum-only feature. While the feature sounds self-explanatory (and awesome) it’s a bit of a misnomer.

Yes, you can message before matching but only when doling out a super like. After clicking the super like option, you’ll then have the opportunity to write a 140-character message. When your profile pops up on her feed, she’ll see that you super-liked her and will be able to read your message.

While I do love this feature as it gives you the chance to let your personality shine and differentiate yourself from other men remember that you only have five free super likes a week. 

After that you’ll have to purchase super likes. Another issue is that not all messages are created equal. If you’re using your message to simply message, hey, she won’t reciprocate your like.

NOTE: These are the only two features that distinguish Tinder Platinum from Tinder Gold. 

Tinder+ Versus Tinder Platinum

We’ve spoken about the differences between Tinder Gold and Tinder Platinum (Priority Likes & Message Before Matching) now let’s quickly compare Tinder+ and Tinder Platinum.

Tinder+ is Tinder’s cheapest subscription coming in at a starting price of $12.99 for just one week. Tinder+ for an entire month would cost $19.

While Tinder Gold and Tinder Platinum may be comparable when it comes to features, that’s not the case with Tinder+.

Tinder Platinum has the following features that Tinder+ does not offer:

• See Who Likes You
• Priority Likes
• 1 Free Boost Per Month – Tinder+ offers 0 boosts
• 5 Free Super Likes Per Week – Tinder+ offers 0 super likes
• Message Before Matching
• Top Picks – Browse through curated list of best potential matches

The only quality features Tinder+ offers are unlimited likes and passport mode. In other words, never sign up for Tinder+.

Tinder Platinum Cost

The cost of Tinder Platinum varies depending on how many months you sign up for.

Here’s the breakdown.

• 1 month/$49.99
• 6 months/$30-a-month
• 12 months/$20-a-month

Tinder Platinum has plenty of features, but it doesn’t provide you with unlimited super likes and boosts.

Users are granted five super likes a week and one boost per month. If you want more you’ll have to purchase them.

Super likes cost between $2.00-$3.33 depending on how many super likes you purchase.

Boosts cost between $6.00-$7.99, depending on how many you purchase.

Is Tinder Platinum Really That Different From Other Tinder Subscriptions?

Honestly, yes.

Even though Tinder Platinum only offers two more features than Tinder Gold (Message Before Matching & Priority Likes), these two features justify the new subscription tier.

The Priority Likes feature is akin to having first dibs on that beautiful woman you see at the bar. It’s the VIP pass at Disney World, but for Tinder romance. If you’re in a major city chances are there are thousands on thousands of Tinder users. The woman you’re most attracted to may not see your profile for weeks, months, or ever. Priority Likes may be the only way to ensure she sees your profile.

I can’t stress how amazing of a feature this is. It’s basically a cheat code that you can buy for $20-a-month.

Secondly, there’s Message Before Matching.

Again, you can’t message every woman prior to matching, however you can message five women a week. If you know what type of message to send, this might just be enough. The issue is sending the right message, which brings us to my final question.

Is Tinder Platinum Really Worth It?

Yes, but also no.

You see it all depends on your current success.

If you’re working with an optimized, top-performing profile that boasts an array of high quality that showcase your personality and have a well-written bio to round out your profile you might want to consider subscribing to Platinum. This is because Platinum will only expedite your romantic success.

But here’s the flip side.

The flip side is that your profile is being drowned out by the thousands of other men you have to compete with. You score one match every week despite maxing out your swipes every day and the matches you do get are low-quality.

If that’s the case, don’t expect Tinder Platinum to come in and save the day. Platinum builds on what’s already working for you. But if you don’t have a solid foundation to build it, you’ll be subscribing to a service with fancy new features that you’re unable to capitalize on.

If you find yourself in boat number two, here’s my recommendation.
