When Should You Start Dating After Divorce?

You may be asking yourself this question, but honestly, it’s one that only you can answer.

Only you know when you’re emotionally (and legally) ready to date.

Some may be wary for legal reasons to date until the divorce is settled, while others may be assured by their lawyers that they can do so prior. After the legality of the matter is resolved, you need to figure out if you’re emotionally ready.

However, you won’t ever really know if you’re ready or not until you take the plunge.

When you are ready to date, one of your first questions will be how in the world you’re going to meet women as a divorced entrepreneur.

How Do I Start Dating After Divorce In My 40s?

You may have noticed that things have changed a little bit since you were last single.

The biggest change is that instead of meeting women in bars or at parties, more than anywhere else, singles are meeting online.

As you can see from the graph above, almost 40% of all new relationships start online. The Stanford study that reported these findings found that dating apps are by far the most popular way for singles to meet one another.

Back when you were 20 it was easy to meet single women. When you were in grad school, or went to a bar, or a party you were surrounded by single women. That isn’t the case anymore. If you go to a networking event, conference, PTA meeting, or dinner party chances are everyone is partnered up.

Dating apps on the other hand are 24/7 virtual speed dating events where everyone is single, guaranteed.

The easiest way to start meeting women is to sign up for our favorite dating apps: Bumble, Hinge, The League, and yes, even Tinder. 

But being on these apps isn’t a guarantee that you’ll find someone. Most dating apps are awash with men, leaving them competing for a handful of women. To stand out, you’ll have to learn how to create a profile that attracts women you’re interested in. From there you’ll have to learn how to quickly strike up a conversation with a match and transition out of the dating app.

How to Date And Still Have Time For Everything Else

Look, we get it. One of the reasons you may have put off dating is because you’re so busy with work and family that you don’t see how there could possibly be anytime to date.

Going on four-hour first dates is incredibly time-consuming. You have to drive there and back and then spend an entire afternoon or night with someone that you may never see again.

It’s a lot.

Especially if you’re MegaDating (read; going on 20 dates in 90 days).

That’s why we teach men how to go on brief first dates lasting no longer than an hour. 

Look, you’re a busy guy and chances are your type is too. If you’re putting pressure on yourself to go on long first dates on Friday or Saturday nights, you probably won’t do it.

So set up one-hour dates that are easy for you both to say yes to.

If you’re struggling to figure out what an engaging one-hour first date looks like, here are a few ideas:

• Ice cream + a walk
• Bike ride
• Go for a jog or kayak
• Hit a farmer’s market
• Wine + a stroll at the beach
• Picnic
• Mini golf
• Barcade
• Hit the dog park or walk with the dogs
• Go for a brief one-hour hike
• Art tour

Look, you have options.

And hey if she asks to see you longer than an hour, tell her you’re a busy guy but that you’d love to meet her but that you have limited free time. Be upfront about your schedule and the length of the date. Ambushing her by telling her that you need to leave after an hour could be a massive turn-off.

Going on brief one-hour dates will allow you to see a myriad of women without requiring you to cut into work or family time. Not only this, but one-hour first dates will leave her begging for more. You’ll come off as mysterious and in demand, and as such, she’ll want to see you again.

If you like her, at the end of a first date, use a TDL to ask her on a second date.

TDL stands for time, date, and location. You should use these three pieces of information whenever you ask a woman out.
