Tinder Gold: Is Tinder Gold Worth It?

Tinder Gold: Is Tinder Gold Worth It?

If you’re interested in dating women from around the world without leaving your couch, you’re going to love Tinder Gold.

But before we dive into the features of Tinder Gold and if it’s worth paying for, let’s take a quick look at the competitive landscape of the modern online dating world.

Dating apps and online dating is quite a competitive industry, not just for singles, but for companies too.

In 2016, there were 1,500 dating apps and websites on the market. With such saturation, each company fights to remain relevant by offering users distinct capabilities.

Hinge’s paid membership, Hinge+, allows users to filter out prospective lovers by searching users based on their smoking habits, politics, drugs use, number of children they have, etc. Match has launched a new hotline to help guide singles through the world of online dating in the time of the coronavirus.

Apps are always looking for ways to stand out, yet many fall flat. The most popular dating apps greatly overlap when it comes to the capabilities they offer. Nearly every dating app offers some form of boost, super like, spotlight, or feature that allows you to swipe through women who have already signaled their interest. But for all their similarities, there’s still one app that stands out – Tinder.

Tinder reigns supreme for so many reasons. For one, even if the app was utter garbage, it still boasts a user base of 7.86 million Americans. Tinder was also the app that made online dating cool.

Sure it gave online dating a casual connotation at first, but ultimately we have Tinder to directly or indirectly thank as the reason why 30% of Americans have now at one point used an application to find love.

But it isn’t just the legions of singles Tinder has under its ranks that make it stand out. Let’s explore whether Tinder Gold is worth it by looking at its most popular features.

Tinder Gold: What You’ll Love About It

The Passport Feature

is tinder gold worth it?

The app that launched in 2012 also offers users to pretty kick-ass features. While most are commonplace, there’s one that stands out; Tinder Passport.

By signing up with one of Tinder’s paid memberships, Tinder Gold, users gain access to Tinder Passport. The capability does as it implies, it grants users the freedom to change their location and swipe through users from any part of the world where Tinder is active. Want to swipe through women in Italy, no problem, Croatia, Colombia, Sweden – you name the country and Tinder Passport lets you swipe away.

But wait… Tinder isn’t the only app that has this feature right?

As a response to the country’s stay at home orders, Bumble launched their own form of Tinder passport. By paying five Bumble coins ($7.99) Bumble will allow you to “travel” to any country in the world for a period of seven days.

While both Tinder and Bumble offer opportunities to virtually travel the world, there are some key differences. As we touched on, Bumble will charge a wanderlust single $8 for seven days of virtual travel.

For those that sign up with Tinder Plus, they can access the capability by paying $24.99/month.

Tinder Gold’s Worldwide Appeal

While Bumble’s still gaining traction around the world -most notably in India– Tinder has already arrived. Tinder boasts more than 50 million users worldwide, often being the first or second most popular dating app in countries outside of the USA. Bumble on the other hand isn’t even close.

Even if there wasn’t such a user disparity, Tinder would still be the app of choice. For those that don’t know, Bumble is a dating app designed for women by women. This means that to begin a conversation women must message first. Should a conversation with a new match not be initiated within the first 24 hours, the match will expire. While this sounds design may work in the US, it struggles to gain traction in more macho countries. In Brazil, Colombia, Chile, Argentina, and Mexico, Tinder and Badoo are the two preferred apps with Bumble not even on the radar.

As culture changes, the app will grow in popularity. But until that happens, Bumble will remain an afterthought.

Tinder’s universal popularity grants users access to not only women from coast to coast but from continent to continent.

In the most recent month of April, Tinder actually made the Passport capability free for all its users. The company adroitly took advantage of the seemingly worldwide quarantine to showcase their most prized feature.

The company reported that even before the feature was made free, in the month of March, “Rates of Passport use were up over the last week of March in Brazil: 15 percent, Germany: 19 percent, France: 20 percent and India: 25 percent.”

Why Bother To Swipe Internationally?

Let’s be honest. Many Tinder users don’t use Tinder to find true love.

Many a user will blithely swipe through the app in search of validation and a confidence boost. It can be tempting to virtually travel to Spain or Russia not because you’re thinking of traveling there, but because you simply want to rack up matches.

Don’t fall into Tinder’s trap.

Tinder is designed more so as a game than it is a dating app. The hits of dopamine provided by a like, message, or match have led users to swipe right for instant gratification, not a date. In fact, just 50% of Tinder users have ever met a match in real life.

Falling prey to the trap of readily available gratification will lead you to waste countless hours fantasizing about all the women you could potentially date – but that’s just it. A match is nothing more than potential. The only way to make it happen is to shoot her a message and hit her with a TDL and/or get her phone number within the first 10 messages.

Tinder Passport should only be used if you intend on vacationing or moving to the destination you’re now swiping in. Swiping early and lining up dates before you arrive is a great way to make the most of your vacation.

Tinder Passport is by far Tinder Gold’s most impressive feature, but it’s not the only one.

So is Tinder Gold worth it? We can’t say just yet. First, let’s take a look at the other features.

Likes You

is tinder gold worth it?

The second most popular capability is the Likes You feature. If you were to open Tinder now and go to your matches, all the way to the left of your match queue you’d see the number of people who have liked you. It’d be pretty sweet and save you a lot of swiping time if you were able to just see all the people that have already liked you wouldn’t it?

Tinder Gold grants your wish by displaying all the women that have already swiped right on your profile. While this feature sounds pretty cool, upon further research you might be disappointed.

Once Tinder Gold is purchased and you’re able to view all the women that have ever liked you, you’ll notice that among that pile of profiles are women that you’ve swiped left to in the past. The majority of these women will be those that you’ve already rejected.

That being said of the 99+ women that have already swiped right on you there are no doubt a few that you’d reciprocate with a right swipe of your own, match with and potentially date. At the very least this Tinder Gold benefit promises that you won’t spend endless hours swiping away before scoring a match.

5 Super Likes

is tinder gold worth it?

Super likes are frankly super awesome.

According to Tinder you’re three times more likely to get a match if you super like a woman than give her an average like. Why? It’s basic psychology really. We’re more likely to like someone if we already know they like us. Super like matches also generate conversations that last 70% longer than your standard Tinder convo.

Just because you have a super like doesn’t mean you should use it. Some women have also reported being creeped out by super likes. Save them for women that you clearly share a commonality with. If you both wrote in your Tinder bios, “Want a Jim and Pam kind of romance” on your profiles, super like her.

Women are aware that you’ve super liked their profile. Knowing this will lead them to take an extra second to read through your profile to gauge whether you’re worth the swipe or not.

Tinder Gold gives you 5 Super Likes per week.

1 Free Boost A Month

How many singles guys are there in your city? If even a small fraction of them are on Tinder it’s still likely that you’re competing against thousands of other profiles on Tinder. To ensure that your profile gets seen you’ll have to give your profile a boost.

Boosting your profile means skipping the queue and being the first profile women see when they log onto the app. By skipping the line your profile will receive 10x as many views as it would have during the same timeframe had you not boosted. A boost lasts 30 minutes but is well worth it. The best time to boost is Sunday between the hours of 8-10 or Monday between 6-9. It’s at these hours when Tinder is most active.

Unlimited Likes

The free version of Tinder limits the number of right swipes you can dish on within a 24-hour time period. Paying for any Tinder membership lifts swiping restrictions.

For those that have just started using Tinder this is a crucial feature. Upon logging into Tinder for the first time you’re inundated with compatible women. You swipe right on a couple dozen and then are asked to wait 24 hours before you can swipe again. This restriction seems like a massive impediment to finding love, but it’s not.

After a week or so on Tinder, you realize that you’ll struggle to swipe right on more than 20 or so women per session.

Most men leverage this feature by blindly swiping right indefinitely. We don’t recommend doing this. Doing so will lower your desirability rating on Tinder, will expose you to fewer attraction people on the app, and will just result in a lot of matches that you’ll inevitably unmatch with.

Tinder Gold Rewind Feature

Have you ever swiped to the left by mistake?

With Tinder Gold you’re able to rewind your mistake in order to give that person you swiped past a second look. This isn’t a major selling point but this feature does address that FOMO feeling we get when making a swiping error.

Tinder Gold Price

Now let’s talk price.

The Tinder Gold pricing is as follows:

  • $39.99/ 1 Month
  • $23.33/month 6 Months
  • $15.00/month 12 Months

So, Should I Pay for Tinder Gold?

Is Tinder Gold worth it?

Yes and no.

It all depends on what your dating goals are.

You’d think that paying for Tinder Gold and its many perks would automatically score you more matches – false. A paid membership is only as good as your profile, pics, and messaging strategies.

If you’re getting matches on Tinder without paying for Gold, good. That’s a sign that paying for Gold might lead to scoring even more matches of a higher quality. If you’re not getting matches with the free version, that’s a sign you need to optimize your profile.
