18 Physical Second Date Ideas That Get You Moving

fun second date ideas

If you’re trying to come up with some really good second date ideas that will knock her socks off, look no further. There are several compelling ways you can impress a woman by taking her on a physical date that gets you both moving. The best part? You don’t even have to pay a cent!

Take a look at why physical second dates can really move your early relationship forward.

Why Second Dates Should Be Physical

The second date should always be something physical, free and compelling. Using some sort of physical activity during a second date is an incredibly strategic move for several reasons:

  • It can decrease lulls in conversation. When you’re on a date that is physical, you are going to have moments where you will be engaging in the activity rather than chatting. This is super helpful in avoiding awkward pauses and it also gives you something to discuss when you do talk.
  • It shows her that you have a sense of adventure and that you’re creative, which can put you ahead of the pack when it comes to other guys.
  • Physical dates allow you to naturally break the touch barrier. This allows you to escalate sexual tension and will make her more likely to say yes to a third date, which is often when physical intimacy occurs.

Second Date Idea #1: Hiking

This is one of my favorite ideas when it comes to physical dates. If you and your date aren’t super athletic or sporty, no worries! Hiking is an activity that anyone can do.

Because you can only go for a hike during the daytime, this is a great choice because it will put her mind at ease. She won’t have to worry about meeting a guy she is still getting to know something super late at night and she also won’t have to cancel any evening plans in favor of you.

Another great thing about hiking is that — despite taking place in broad daylight — there is a certain level of intimacy that comes with going for a hike together. You won’t be surrounded by crowds or have to deal with noise from bustling city streets.

Finally, even the simplest, most leisurely trails offer some exercise that leads to health benefits. According to the Mayo Clinic, exercises like hiking can help you maintain a healthy weight, improve mood and improve your balance and coordination.

Make sure that you choose a trail that is close to your date’s home, is suitable for her skill level and has some cool things along the way, like waterfalls or particularly scenic areas.

If you want to tell your date to take a hike (with you), I recommend you check out the All Trails hiking app. My boyfriend and I have been using it for years and love it.

Second Date Ideas #2-5: Get Active Indoors

If the weather outside is frightful, you can still enjoy an active second date indoors. There’s plenty of options that make for compelling, free dates that protect you from the elements.

Jiu-Jitsu

Taking a martial arts class together may seem like an unusual date idea — it is and that’s what makes it so compelling.

Doing something like jiu-jitsu will not only make you stand out from other guys she’s dated, it can endear her and bring the two of you closer in several different ways that will basically guarantee she says yes to a third date:

  • You will show her that you have a sense of adventure and are down to take risks.
  • You’ll get the endorphins flowing big time so both of you are in a great mood and stress-free.
  • This will help you break the touch barrier BIG TIME.

Roller Skating

Roller skating is a fun, leisurely date that basically requires you to hold hands at some point — or for the entire time depending on your skill level.

It’s also a great way to be playful and get the giggles going. With roller skating, there’s always that risk that you might fall, but if you can giggle over a slip-up or two, that’s great. This also gives you an opportunity to be chivalrous by making sure you protect her from falling or even take the fall for her.

Bowling

Bowling is a great way to get to know someone while also getting a little active. Bowling, like roller skating, can also be a bit nostalgic. Nostalgic dates are great because they help you tap into your inner child (i.e., you’ll be more playful) and the familiarity offers a sense of comfort. This helps to keep stress low during the date.

There’s usually other stuff to do at a bowling alley other than tossing a ball at some pins. Many places have separate rooms where you can shoot pool, play darts, or get SUPER nostalgic with some old school arcade games.

Indoor Rock Climbing

This is a great way to burn some calories and try rock climbing without fear of scrapes, bruises or falling off a rock. No one wants a date that ends with a literal cliffhanger. In my opinion this is one of the most exciting and fun second date ideas you could offer to a woman.

Second Date Ideas #6-10: Fear-stimulating Dates

Trying to scare a girl on a date may seem like a head scratcher but hear me out.

Fear-stimulating dates are extremely compelling and will bring you and your date closer. Think about times you went on a roller coaster or saw a scary movie that you liked. Even though those things were scary, you enjoyed them and seek that same experience again and again. Why is this?

If you remember, I mentioned how physical activities release feel-good hormones known as endorphins. During times of fear, your brain releases dopamine, which lights up our brain’s reward center and gives you a natural high.

Although you’re not likely to be LOL-ing and full of glee when being chased by a bear or find yourself in any situation of actual danger, getting scared in a safe environment can be a ton of fun.

Here are a few free scares to get you started:

  • Ziplining
  • Skydiving (or something similar that isn’t quite as terrifying)
  • Go-kart racing
  • Kiteboarding
  • Do a walking tour of a famous haunted house, hotel, bar or restaurant

Second Date Ideas #11-13: Nature Dates

Getting out in the elements can be a great way to get physical and completely eliminate nervousness during a date. Several studies have found a link between experiencing nature and better mood.

Moreover, being out in the sunshine as opposed to being cooped up inside is great for your health and naturally makes you happy.

Slap on some sunscreen and get ready to soak up a healthy dose of Vitamin D with these awe-stimulating outdoor dates.

Hiking

As mentioned, this is a great date to naturally break the touch barrier, stimulate sexual tension and offer her a compelling experience without requiring much athleticism.

Go to the Beach

If you live near a beach, take advantage of that naturally romantic backdrop by doing a beach date. Other than taking a long walk on the beach, there are a few cool things you can do to make your day a little more physical:

  • Play beach volleyball.
  • Throw a frisbee around.
  • Fly DIY kites.
  • Enjoy some friendly competition with a sand castle building contest. Let passersby be the judge of who wins.
  • Splash around in the waves or — if you’re both game for it — pick an activity like boogie boarding or jet skiing, if it’s available.

Take a Bike Ride

If you and your date both enjoy cycling, consider using your shared passion as the centerpiece of a second date. Not only is cycling a ton of fun, this low-impact exercise comes with several health benefits, including:

  • Increased muscle
  • Builds bone
  • Burns a ton of calories
  • Good for the heart, brain, and blood vessels

Choose a safe and scenic route and pick a good destination to end up at, like a cozy cafe or a park where you can have a picnic.

Speaking of parks…

Go to a Park

Get into the swing of things by pushing your date on the swingset at a park or taking a quick hike. This is a great way to be playful and get in some physical activity while also having plenty of opportunities to get to know each other better.

Second Date Ideas #14-17: Animals

Cute animals make everything better pretty much 100% of the time. If you can find a physical second date where a cuddly koala bear of playful pooch makes an appearance, you basically have a third date in the bag.

There are several different options when it comes to finding second date ideas that are animal-friendly.

Zoo

Get some exercise and check out several different members of the animal kingdom by visiting your local zoo.

Pro tip: LOOK INTO THIS. You want to make sure that there is a high percent chance that penguins will be happening and that she will see said penguins.

Penguins are always a good idea when it comes to making a woman melt — ALWAYS.

Visit an Aquarium

You need to be strategic with this one as well. For example, don’t just wander around without doing your research, or you’re liable to end up stuck in some kind of tiger shark exhibit and for five minutes you and your date will just be staring into these toothy terrors’ cold, dead eyes.

Try to find some cool exhibits with unusual species who’s resting face isn’t murderous.

Leopard sharks are a cute shark species, and things like turtles, dolphins, and seals are always a go.

Yappy Hour

What can make a happy hour go from standard to AMAZING? Puppies, of course!

Yappy hours have been popping up all over the place and they’re definitely worth checking out if you want to pair your craft beer with a side of adorable.

Many yappy hours allow you to either bring your own dog and will also have dogs available for adoption. This type of date will definitely make you stand out from all the other guys that took her to a happy hour sans doggies.

Doga

No, I didn’t spell yoga wrong, there is actually such a thing as dog yoga. There is also cat yoga if you and your date happen to be into that/are not allergic to cats/like cats, which seems to be harder to come by than dogs for some reason.

This is a super creative and compelling second date that will get you to spend time with some cute animals while also enjoying the benefits of yoga.

If you can find a way to do yoga on a date, this is great because yoga has been shown to ease anxiety and improve mood. Moreover, yoga keeps you in the present moment, which can keep you from getting too in your head on a date.

Second Date Idea #18: Volunteering

Get a date and give back! Volunteer at a local soup kitchen, animal shelter, or find a cause that means something to you and your date. You can find local volunteering opportunities on websites like VolunteerMatch.org, Idealist.org, and HandsOn Network.

This is also a great way to show her your sensitive side and your compassion. And when you choose a cause that means something to you, it definitely makes for a great segway into a conversation about morals and values on the third date.
