How do you convince a stranger you met online to go out with you?

Do you buy them roses, send a few sultry shirtless gym pics, or talk about your puppy until the only way to shut you up is to go out with you?

Hinge has a solution.

By way of prompts, Hinge allows users to get to know each other. Because after all, no woman will give her Saturday afternoon to a complete stranger. Before agreeing to go out she’ll want to at least have an inkling of who you are. 

Hinge has created an online space that gives the user an opportunity to humanize themselves.

One way Hinge does this is by requiring users to fill out three Hinge prompts.

As of late, our favorite is the “I geek out on” Hinge prompt.

I Geek Out On | Hinge Prompt

By far this is one of our favorite prompts.

We think everyone should include it in their profile for the simple reason that it gives you the chance to really show her who you are.

When answering this prompt be sure to be as weird and descriptive as possible.

It doesn’t matter if you geek out on something super arcane. You really only want to attract compatible women. Being cliche and talking about something everyone likes isn’t in your best interest as you’re not compatible with literally every woman out there.

Not to mention you have three prompts to choose from, a voice prompt, prompt poll, and up to 6 photos and videos to give her a well-rounded idea of who you are.

Dedicating one prompt to discuss something she might not know much about isn’t going to ruin your chances of romantic glory.

But all this may seem a tad vague.

To give you a concrete idea of what you should write, we created 10 original I geek out on prompt responses.

1) Tell Her The Truth

It doesn’t matter if she doesn’t know who Caroline Polachek is or is super into black holes.

The goal with these Hinge prompt responses is to speak your truth and hope that someone resonates with what you wrote.

The worst thing you can do is lie about what turns you on for the purpose of attracting more matches.

Ultimately these matches will disappoint because you’re not compatible.

Talk about your weird, obscure interests.

I should also mention that spending one or even two prompt responses dropping obscure references won’t disqualify you. She’ll also take a look at your photos and bio to make her decision.

2) Allora!

Everyone is a foodie nowadays… everyone.

Every single woman on Hinge has her favorite restaurant, favorite dish, guilty pleasures, etc.

Connect with your fellow foodie by waxing poetic about your favorite dish, so long as that dish isn’t tacos.

Various articles have been written about dating app users’ obsession with tacos. It’s cliche, it’s stale, and it won’t distinguish you.

Talk about your favorite food and be sure to end with a disguised invite to the best restaurant in town.

Just make sure to catch any “spelling errors” in your I geek out on prompt responses. Nothing turns women off more than an error laid out in the word “spaghetti” in the above prompt.

3) The Classics

I’m a big fan of lists when it comes to responding to prompts.

Lists give her a range of things to latch her teeth into.

If you say one or two words she doesn’t have a lot to work with. Use the real estate you have to talk in-depth about your interests.

This means listing all your favorite foods, books, movies, jokes, countries you want to visit, etc.

Your job here is to make a connection. That’s best done when you use a few different types of bait.

4) Nostalgia Is Hot

This is just another example of a user getting unabashedly nerdy.

Talking video and board games isn’t just nerdy but it’s the best way to connect to the women you dig most.

Again, I can’t stress how important it is to be yourself.

Being someone you’re not will attract women you’re not into.

Not to mention that not being as distinct will make you appear as though you’re just another indistinguishable piece of the blob. Far too few men attempt to showcase their personalities online. They write a word or two and hope for a match. That’s not the way to go about it.

Men that humanize themselves by getting as granular as possible get the most matches, regardless of their interests.

Pro Tip:

Use keywords that describe who you are and what you’re into. Apps use keywords to put your profile into users with similar interests.

5) Sounds Fancy

Painting and drinking wine has become all the rage in recent years.

But it’s often one of those things we all say we want to do but never actually do.

Thankfully she’s matched with you, a guy that does just the kinds of fun, adventurous, novel things she’s wanted to do.

Staying inside and binging Netflix is lame, but not only that it’s something everyone can do and something everyone does do.

Show her you’re the kind of guy that is a doer. Tell her about your unique hobbies that get you out of the house.

The particular response works wonders because it’s about a hobby many women are into. Not only this but it includes drinking alcohol and probably putting your pinkie in the air.

6) Talk About Those Puppers

Fact, men with dogs in their profile get more matches. 

There’s something about men and furry animals that make women swoon. Whatever the reason, women love when they see photos of men with dogs.

Throw up a picture of you and your pooch on Hinge. Not only this but be sure to talk up your dogger.

This Hinge “I geek out on” prompt response above is perfect because it’s flirty and invites her to join you at the dog park.

As proponents of MegaDating we think first dates should be brief and cheap. Not only this but they must take place close to her home AND consist of an activity she’s up for.

An hour-long trip to the park perhaps followed by a beer or coffee is perfect.

It’s easy, quick, and gets her and her dog out of the house.

7) Such A Dork

What I love about this prompt response is that you won’t find another like it on Hinge.

I mean what other male user will offer up a riddle for their I geek out on Hinge prompt?

This prompt — like all good prompts — invites the user in. It asks a question and demands a response.

If we want to make this prompt a little bit more interactive we can add, “what do you think the answer is?” OR “now it’s your turn.”

8) Damn That’s Cheesy

Choose something odd enough that she might like your prompt and respond to it. Maybe even add what your favorite true crime podcast is — say Crime Junkie.

Cheese rolling isn’t common, but it is interesting. So much so that she might click your prompt and shoot you a question.

Should she comment on this you can easily segue into asking her on a picnic date and that if she brings you wine you’ll bring the cheese.

9) What Is Daaaayyuummm?

Again, even if you’re a super nerd that’s still mourning the late Alex Trebek you shouldn’t hide who you are.

If your dream girl is down to cuddle up with you on the couch as you two binge Jeopardy then go for her. Don’t hide away by posting a vapid response about being the Jim to her Pam.

10) Be As Descriptive As Possible

This is a beautiful example of a list that provides plenty of description.

Listing is one thing, but expanding and showing her your voice and personality is going to get you bonus points.

When I stopped writing this I just had 40 or so characters to work with.

The more you write the better. It’s fine if she doesn’t read it all. In fact more women spend no more than 4 seconds looking at a profile before liking it.

It’s for this reason you need to make sure your photos are in tip-top shape.

Before you run to update your Hinge profile by answering the I geek out on prompt let’s quickly discuss best Hinge photo practices.

Choose The Perfect Hinge Photos

Although Hinge is the app designed to be deleted, it’s still superficial. Sure it claims to want to pair you with a long-term partner, but it still uses superficial practices to do so.

With that said it’s vital to choose a solid roster of photos.

When choosing photos keep these suggestions in mind:

• Never obscure your face with glasses, a hat, or scarf
• Always be smiling
• First photo should be a headshot
• Hobby, sporty, and dog pics are proven to get you more matches
• Group shots are cool, just add them after the second photo
• No selfies
• Keep the shirt on

Follow these tips and you’ll be sure to score more matches.

Hinge Refresh Hack!

Even if you write a Hinge prompt response so witty even Nick Kroll would be jealous you still may struggle for matches.

If you feel like you need to press the restart button you actually can.

Our student recently went to delete his account and was able to refresh his feed by going to Delete my account>had a bad experience>fresh restart.

This won’t solve all your problems but it will make Hinge view your account with fresh eyes.

Ultimately our student was able to reset his feed and as a consequence was exposed to new profiles he had never seen before.
