Sometimes it feels easier meeting a woman in the doctor’s office surrounded by men waiting to get a vasectomy than on a dating app.

This is because on Tinder there are nine men for every one woman and on its main competitor Bumble, there are seven men for every three women.

These lopsided ratios allow women to be pickier than they would otherwise be IRL. The scarcity of women means women can date out of their league, while men are forced to do the opposite.

So what does this mean for your dating profile?

Well, it means you have to take extra special care in creating a near-perfect profile in order to stand out.

But it can be difficult knowing what a perfect profile looks like and what seemingly minor faux pas can cancel out all your hard work.

We took to TikTok to ask ladies what their biggest turn off on a man’s dating profile were… here’s what they said.

1) Stop Catching The Wrong Fish

There are a lot of women in the sea, but you won’t catch many if you’re flaunting your fishing skills on dating apps.

Posting a fishing photo is cliche, everyone does it. But its ubiquity isn’t the only reason it’s such a big dating app turn-off for women.

Fishing is by and large a sport for men. Women aren’t impressed by something they care nothing about. To add, fish are slimy, smell, and are still living, breathing creatures that are tortured by fishermen.

Choose photos that resonate with women, photos that lend themselves to having a conversation.

Unless you ONLY are willing to date a fellow fisherwoman ditch the fish photos.

Instead throw out bait she might want to sink her teeth into like a picture of you and your best furry friend, a hobby shot of you showing off your manly side, or a GQ pic of you in your best threads.

2) Not All Women Like Dirty Men

Use your common sense and never take a bathroom selfie.

What woman wants to be introduced to a man via a selfie with a toilet in the background?

When trying to figure out which photos are worth posting, ask yourself this, would you want to see the type of photo in her profile? If not, best not to post it.

The next major dating app turn off this user responded with was to not add photos of you with other women in your profile. To clarify what the lovely TikTok maiden is referring to, she’s talking about photos that include just you and one other woman. Group pictures are okay as long as you’re touching another female.

Again, these photos are the first she’ll see of you.

You don’t want the first thing she says to be, “oh is that his ex“?

This first interaction is delicate and crucial. It doesn’t matter if she’s your cousin and you explain this in your bio. Chances are she won’t get that far if she sees you with another lady.

3) Paint A Good Picture

Don’t talk about negatives.

Paint such a positive picture that she thinks you’re Ned freakin’ Flanders.

Talking in the negative doesn’t reveal who you are, but rather makes you look like a pretentious dictator who thinks he’s too good for everyone on the app.

Specifically saying, NO DRAMA in all caps makes it appear like you’re someone that attracts drama or has played a role in creating drama in the past.

Instead, write about who you are and your values. Naturally doing so will attract like-minded individuals.

4) Leave The Past Behind

As you can imagine this is a massive dating app turn off. Chances are you’re now single and just don’t have a lot of great pics of you as a single man. But as a first encounter, she won’t be able to forgive this and look past the ring. In her mind you’re still too attached (or sleazy) to take a chance on. Especially not when the majority of men she’s interacting with haven’t made that same mistake.

5) Show Her What You Look Like

Let’s break this response from one of our female TikTok followers into two parts.

First let’s address her first comment, sunglasses on in every pic.

Anything that obscures your face is working against you. Maybe that’s a hat, scarf, hoody, or sunglasses. As of now you’re a complete stranger. She has no idea what you look like. It’s your job to give her a reasonable understanding of what you look like. The best way to do that is by not obscuring your face.

Mitigate any worry that you’re a burn victim by having your first photo as a close-up headshot.

Now for her second comment, typing just ask instead of putting effort into a bio.

The same logic for the sunglasses being a turn-off applies to a lack of bio. As of right now you’re a stranger. It’s on you to convince her to not only swipe right but to meet up IRL. You won’t be able to do this by withholding information.

Most other men on apps provide a wealth of bio and prompt information. This info serves to make you more appealing. Withholding information does the opposite. In order for her to match with you she’ll want to read something that turns her on and appeals to her.

Quickly form this bond by talking about your hobbies and making a joke or two.

6) Date Mike Should Stay Home

Everyone loves The Office.

Everyone.

So talking about your love for earth’s most beloved show is like talking about how much you like breathing.

With so many men showing so little of their personality the men of Tinder and Bumble all seem the same. Stand out by talking about what makes you unique. Also avoid talking about your love of margs and tacos.

Another major turn-off she mentions is when men write, not sure what they’re looking for.

She claims everyone has at least an inkling of what they’re looking for, and you know what, if you’re not sure, don’t write anything. That being said, you should know what you’re looking for before getting your swipe on. Doing so will only help find more compatible women.

7) Biggest Dating App Turn Offs – Bad Photos

This has been reiterated again and again by the female TikTok users that responded to our question, what are the biggest dating app turns offs for women?

She wants, nay, needs to know what you look like before she feels comfortable enough to date you. The best way to assuage any anxiety is to take natural, solid photos that show who you look like.

This particular user isn’t a massive fan of professional photos because it makes you look like a try-hard. We don’t 100% agree with that. As long as the photos come out candid we say go for it.

8) Where’s Waldo?

She doesn’t want to play Where’s Waldo when trying to figure out who you are.

Make it easy for her by having your first photos be just of you. After you’ve established beyond a doubt what you look like, only then can you include a group shot. That being said even in group shots she should still easily be able to identify who you are.

Include one or (tops) two group shots in your photo roster. You want one group shot to show her you have friends and that other humans voluntarily choose to spend their free time with you.

9) Always A No

Selfies work for FB or IG updates, but that’s pretty much it.

Selfies aren’t sexy because anyone can take a selfie. They’re everywhere, aren’t the best angle, are contrived, and make you appear kind of lonely.

Before swiping right a woman may not read your bio. However, before responding to your message and certainly before agreeing to go out with you, she’ll take the time to read your profile.

Take a moment to sound like an adult and spellcheck your profile.

12) A Little Variety

This user had quite a bit to say.

She’s turned off by being overly political, too demanding, or writing about how they don’t want any drama.

However, I want to pay attention to the last piece of advice.

She warns that posting the same picture over and over is her biggest dating app turn off.

Show her a bit of variety by posting an array of photos.

I’m talking about photos that show her not only what you look like but also your hobbies, animals, you with friends, and you in a range of clothing.

13) No Shirt No Likes

Fact: All women love a man with muscles.

Also A Fact: 99% of women don’t want to see a man getting his flex on via shirtless selfies on a dating app.

It’s vain and gives major fuck-boy vibes.
