5 Best Dating Sites For Nerds And Gamers

5 Best Dating Sites For Nerds And Gamers

There’s someone out there for all of us.

This is the Disney-inspired BS cliche about love that’s been passed on from generation to generation like some hideous family heirloom that we wish would get burnt to shreds in a fire. And as much as I hate to agree with cliches, it’s true.

There are like 7.8 billion people in this world and counting, of course, there’s a woman out there for you. Don’t believe me? -let’s look at the numbers.

In 2012, 77% of adult males 25 and older had been married at one point in their lives. For those that have a BA that number rises to 82%, if you have a post-graduate degree that number peaks at 93%. Looking at those percentages, odds are you’re probably going to get married.

But the story the numbers tell and the realities of life might never align. This may well be the case because you don’t know where to find the woman of your fantasies.

Finding a partner is easy nowadays if your hobbies include eating tacos, watching The Office, and hitting up a local brewery every week. But this lifestyle just isn’t for everyone.

Some people prefer to read Patrick Rothfuss, play Magic, and attend hackathons. That’s cool too. The issue is that this isn’t the norm.

This isn’t to say that women aren’t into these hobbies, rather, they’re just tougher to find -that’s where online dating comes in.

A recent Stanford study found that 39% of all new relationships start online. But this doesn’t mean that any online dating app will do. Each dating website and app target certain users.

To find a woman that shares your interests let’s take a look at the 5 best dating sites for nerds and gamers.

Best Dating Sites for Nerds and Gamers

Soul Geek

best dating sites for geeks

How would you feel using a dating site for nerds that was designed by a guy that has done voiceovers for Call of Duty, Guitar Hero, and WoW?

Voiceover actor and self-proclaimed nerd, Dino Andrade created Soul Geek ten years after his wife passed. Once he was emotionally stable enough to date again, Dino took to the standard dating websites in the attempt to find love again. He soon found that his love for Star Trek and comic books hindered his dating prospects. So he did something about it, something super nerdy about it -he created his own dating website for nerds.

In touching fashion, Soul Geek is a homage to his wife, “Soul Geek will come to mean many things to many people, but for me, every couple we bring together is a living testament to my late wife’s memory.”

The website obviously aims to connect nerds far and wide, but being that the app is so niche, it hasn’t exactly received the funding that other major dating sites have. The website has experienced a number of bugs in its time, prompting the creator to revamp the website. The new and improved Soul Geek should be launched within the coming months.

What’s cool about the site is that it allows members to scroll through users far and wide and message anyone that piques your interest. Unlike more popular apps, there is no limit to the number of women you can message. Another cool feature is that you can see when another user is online.

Soul Geek might just have the most detailed bios. Users are able to answer any number of questions when filling out their bios typically resulting in bios that have been plastered with nerdy quotes and references to obscure sci-fi movies.

When asked to describe “My Soul Geek Self,” one user wrote: “My interests are kind of all over the place. I think my top obsession for sure is Star Wars. I’m in love all things dark side and I absolutely hate Ewoks with a blinding passion. I have a LOTR tattoo, a quote from the book in Elvish (not my only tattoo).”

The only major downside of the website is when it comes to both the male-female ratio and the number of users. There’s little to no data that I can find that indicates how many members the website has. That being said, considering it’s a niche dating site, probably not too many.

The other issue is, of course, the male-female ratio. Scroll through the users and you’ll see that the website is heavily male-dominated. That being said, most dating apps have higher rates of males to females.

Geek 2 Geek

According to Geek 2 Geek, the nerdy dating website uses “a special “geek” scoring system, but you also get to pick your top 3 criteria so that your matches can be ranked to reflect your own special interest.” Using such a system shifts the importance of a potential match away from looks and towards shared interests.

G2G is another niche geek dating website. Its sleek design suggests that the website is more efficient, has more users, and is an overall higher quality dating website. Another reason to believe this is because of the site’s membership fees, which are fairly pricey.

The app has three types of memberships: free, silver, and gold. Silver will run you $34.99 for one month whereas gold costs $42.99. For the record, these are quite pricey memberships. Bumble, for example, can cost between $10-25/month whereas Tinder ranges from just $5-10 a month.

I’m always leery to advise signing up for pricey niche dating apps such as these. Due to how limited the dating pool is, you just don’t know how shallow the pool is. Perhaps there are only a few thousand members and they all live in other parts of the country. I recommend starting with a free membership and going from there.

Tinder

Didn’t expect to see this one on the list did you?

Look, when you think of dating apps you think Tinder. If an American has just one dating app on their phone it’s probably this one.

Sure it’s not a niche dating site for nerds, but it is by far the most popular dating app in the US with 7.86 million users.

Even though the app wasn’t designed with you in mind, unlike the one ring to rule them all, it can be wielded to suit your needs. The key is in your presentation.

What kind of message are you projecting?

Broadcasting a nerdy persona will attract other nerds. If you want to cast a wider net, perhaps don’t include a photo from your last cosplay event.

With a userbase in the millions, there are thousands of nerds swiping it up on Tinder. It’s your job to find them. If it’s other nerds you’re hoping to attract don’t be afraid to showcase your interests to the world. Post nerdy photos and quote your favorite show in your bio.

Hinge

Hinge is my clients’ preferred dating app.

The app connects you with friends of your FB friends. Chances are your friends are FB friends with some serious Star Wars nerds. Imagine being able to date anyone hovering on the outskirts of your friend group?

What’s beautiful about the people you meet on Hinge is that they’re a reflection of your online social circle. Now there won’t be a need to filter out non-nerds -your FB friends should do that for you.

Hinge claims that it’s the only dating app designed to be deleted. Why this is partially true is because of its interface.

On more superficial apps like Tinder you don’t have to engage with the entirety of someone’s profile, if you don’t care to, you don’t even have to read their bio. Hinge profiles are designed differently.

When checking out profiles of female users you’re forced to scroll through their written Hinge Answers in order to see more photos. Moreso than salivating over their photos, reading one’s bio will give you a better understanding of who they really are. This design makes writing a stimulating bio all the more important.

Facebook Dating

FB Dating finally made its US debut in August of 2019. It had been rolled out in 19 countries before its US launch.

For the most part, there’s little unique about FB Dating.

Its interface most closely resembles that of Hinge, users can post 9 pictures, write a bio, yadayada.

However, there are two things that make FB’s new feature stand out.

One has to do with the oodles of data it can pull to create an effective dating algorithm. Think of all the information FB has access to (a scary thought no doubt). It is harnessing this information to connect you with the most compatible singles. It’ll take into account the posts you’ve liked, the groups you’ve joined, and even your FB friends.

The second major boon is that it’s freaking FB. Sure Facebook Dating isn’t that popular yet, but in short time it may well become the most popular dating app on the planet. With a high-quality algorithm in place and users a plenty to sort through, FB Dating may well become the best dating site for nerds in the near future.

What Now?

Now you download, create a profile, and start messaging fellow nerdy singles.

Despite now knowing which sites to sign up for, creating a profile and finding matches can still be a daunting process. If that’s the case, I’ve got you covered.
