What Is A Swipe Surge And How To Use It To Get More Matches

Hate it or love it Tinder is the most popular dating app in the United States.

With nearly 8 million users, it has millions more users than the second most popular dating app (Bumble).

With all these singles ladies buzzing around Tinder you’ll have no problem scoring a match or two.

The thing is, there are certain moments when there are more fishes buzzing around than others.

In this article, we’ll teach you what a swipe surge is and how to get the most out of it.

What Is A Swipe Surge?

Wait, do you feel that?

The ground is trembling, your palms are sweaty, and of course, your phone is vibrating.

Yep, that’s what a Tinder swipe surge feels like.

That’s because a swipe surge is a twister of a singles party taking place within Tinder.

The thing is, it only happens once and a while.

Tinder describes a swipe surge as:

“During a Swipe Surge, activity is up to 15x higher! And with that many more people at the party, your match-making potential is increased by 250%, which means you’ll also spark up a new convo with a cutie 33% faster — so keep your witty banter, and your phone charged.”

We know that Tinder is by far the most popular dating app in the states.

This being the case it makes sense that every so often there are an insane amount of people on the app.

As Tinder suggests swipe surges are organic and take place when there are 15x more users online — and in your area — than normally.

You can think of a swipe surge as a ladies night, except one that takes place on your phone and where everyone is single and is looking for action.

When a Tinder swipe surge is happening you’ll receive a notification that looks like this:

It can be easy to brush off yet another Tinder notification, but this is one you might want to actually pay attention to.

When a surge is taking place, it’s in your best interest to at the very least spend 5-10 minutes getting your swipe on.

When Do Swipe Surges Happen?

We know that surges take place when there is an abnormally large amount of users on the app.

What we aren’t 100% sure about is what triggers this.

That being said, we have some guesses.

For one, Tinder tells us when surges are most likely to happen:

“There are times when activity on Tinder naturally surges — you never know what could happen, you just know you don’t want to miss out.

Swipe Surge is no ordinary party. It happens during festivals, it happens during Spring Break, it happens when someone screams “open bar” from the rooftop pool party and everyone needs to be “meeting a friend” who’s already inside. It happens any time people in your area are lighting up Tinder. And yes, the possibilities are endless.”

Surges are most likely to happen during:

— Music festivals

— Spring break

— Valentines Day

First Sunday of the new year

— Wedding season

— Tourist high season

— Fri-Sun during cuffing season

— Any major event that sees the local population increase significantly (fairs, festivals, lectures, parties, etc.)

How To Get The Most Out Of A Swipe Surge

As you well know Tinder is a dating app that offers free as well as paid versions.

Let’s break down how you can maximize your matches based on each category.

Paid Versions:

Tinder offers three types of subscriptions each with its own accompanying features.

There are three paid features that can really help you maximize your matches during a surge.

First, let’s talk about a Tinder Boost.

A Tinder Boost is like a flashy VIP pass that you can use to skip the entire queue. As you know, Tinder sees you nothing more than a card in a ginormous deck. That deck gets even bigger during a surge. Sure it’s great that more users are on but that may also result in pushing your card to the bottom of the deck — especially if you’re not on the app during a surge.

Bump yourself to the front of the queue by using your boost.

Boosts last for 30 minutes and according to Tinder you’re rewarded for swiping while using your boost.

The second way you can boost your matches is via Super Likes.

A Super Like is akin to a regular like in that it indicates that you’re interested in another user. The difference is that when you use a Super Like, you’re letting another user know that you not only kinda like them, but are super interested in them. According to Tinder using a Super Like increases your chances of being liked by 3x. The key to using these likes is to only send them to women that have been recently active or online. I say this because women that are currently online or have been recently active or most likely to be on the app, see your super like during rush hour and in turn reciprocate with a like or their own.

The last thing you can do if you have Tinder Gold or Platinum is leverage the See Who Likes You Feature.

If you’re willing to pay Tinder will grant you the ability to literally see every woman that has liked you. So instead of waiting around, swiping away indefinitely in the hope that you’ll come across someone who’s already swiped right on you, you can instead view only profiles that have already approved you.

To get the most out of this feature during a surge you’ll want to only swipe right on women that have recently swiped right on you. If you’re lucky they’ll be online and you can strike up a conversation.

Free Version:

Just because you’re cheap doesn’t mean Tinder doesn’t give you certain perks.

Even free users will receive one free Super Like every 24 hours. Use this during the surge period.

But apart from Super Likes, users can also see an organic bump when they update their profile.

My hunch is that every time you add a new photo or write something new, Tinder will view you with newfound value. I say this because it’s in the app’s best interest to keep already active users engaged. Tinder will see your willingness to change your profile as an interest to perhaps purchase a paid membership.

Change a couple of pictures during a swipe surge to get an organic boost.

Another tactic you can use is a bit more simple but possibly more effective.

Use that battering ram of a thumb you have to swipe, swipe, swipe.

With more fish swimming around you’re bound to catch one. You just need to keep casting that reel.

How To Prepare An Awesome Profile For The Next Surge

As we’ve noted, Tinder swipe surges are pretty unpredictable.

The best way to be prepared is to, well, always be prepared.

So how can you do this?

The first thing you’ll want to address are your photos.

The average female user spends no more than 5 seconds looking at a profile before swiping.

This means you’ll need a quality roster of photos uploaded at all times.

Let’s quickly break each photo down one by one.

1) Close-up Headshot

No female in the right mind will swipe right on a guy without knowing what he looks like. Your first photo should be a close-up headshot that clearly shows what you look like.

2) Full-Body Shot

Your main goal with each of your photos is to show her what you look like as well as demonstrate your personality.

At some point, you’ll have to show her what your entire body looks like. Women don’t want any surprises or unanswered questions about her Tinder dates appearance before meeting for the first time. Quell those doubts by offering a range of photos. what is swipe surge

3) The Hobby Shot

An oft-posed question on a first date is, “what do you do for fun?”

Answer this question before the date begins by showing her in your profile. Post a photo of you doing something you love. This will humanize you and show her that you have a unique life of your own.

4) Animal Lover Shot

If you have a pooch why not put her or him on display?

Research shows that women love a man that can take care of an animal (in particular a dog). This shows that they’re caring and might be half-decent fathers.

5) The Social Shot

To her, you’re a complete stranger.

Strangers are new, unknown, and kinda scary.

Address her fears by showing her that you’re the kind of guy that other people want to be around. Do this with a group shot. Group shots should be slotted in after the second photo and should be limited to two per profile.

Sure the written portion of your Tinder bio isn’t nearly as important as the photos, but not writing anything at all is a major turn-off.
