Being basic on a dating app isn’t just boring it’s a sin. 

Posting photos of you holding a fish you assassinated or a shirtless gym selfie, talking about your love of The Office and tacos, and messaging every woman, “hey” after matching are all signs that you might be basic.

And if you’re wondering why your match queue is looking rather empty, that’s why.

The women of Bumble don’t respond well to basic men. Perhaps your games worked on Tinder but they won’t once you’ve upgraded to the more mature mating hive that is Bumble.

The best way to avoid being labeled as basic is by providing a witty answer to a Bumble prompt.

There’s no one-size-fits-all way to write a Bumble prompt.

Some prompt answers work because they’re funny, others because they’re informative, and others work because they’re obscure enough to only connect you with the kind of woman you’re super compatible with.

Each of the following Bumble answers will do one of the aforementioned.

What’s key is to have three Bumble prompt answers that each showcase a different aspect of your personality.

Only posting humorous yet absurd answers makes you come off like a goofball that’s not serious about finding a long-term partner. Creating a balanced profile by showcasing every side of your personality.

The following answers are 100% original. Feel free to steal, remix, or just get inspired.

Here’s how it’s done.

1) Tell Her The Future

She wants to know what it’ll look like to date you.

She wants to know who you are, what you like to do in your free time, your professional ambitions, and of course what you look like.

There are a billion questions she wants answers to.

Of course, she doesn’t need them all answered before a first date — that wouldn’t be any fun.

But giving her a taste of what’s to come will calm her nerves and provide her with a level of safety she needs in order to go out with a stranger such as yourself.

Not to mention being forthright about the length of a first date means she won’t feel rejected when you end things after an hour.

2) Truly A Trend Setter

If there’s one thing I want to drive home it’s that women love originality.

They’re tired of the guys that put in little effort.

They want someone that’s going to take them on a killer date.

Hell, they just want someone to even ask them out on a date.

I say this because 50% of Tinder users have never dated someone they met on the app. I can only imagine the numbers aren’t much more encouraging for Bumble users.

Even if you risk coming off as a little weird, a little weird is better than a little boring on an app where most profiles are more than a little boring.

3) What Dating You Looks Like

Right now you’re the same as all the other guys from Bumble.

Without a detailed profile, there’s nothing that sets you apart.

The more you fill up that valuable Bumble real estate the better your chances of receiving a right swipe become.

Pro Tip:

Describe in detail your first date.

Tell her where you’ll go what you’ll do even what you’ll talk about.

Remember that Bumble requires women to message first.

Like men, most women put little effort into their opening message. If your profile doesn’t lend itself to an easy opening message she might opt to not message and let the match expire. If that happens she might be lost forever.

Make it easy for her to message by providing an answer that demands being commented on.

Concrete first date plans are the exact messages that will make it easy for her to comment on.

That’s why this is one of my favorite answers to Bumble’s “Old dating traditions are out. My new tradition is…” prompt.

4) A New Twist On An Old Trick

There’s a reason that uploading a photo with you and man’s best wingman led to 45% more matches for the men of Bumble.

Women love dogs, and unsurprisingly they love men that love dogs even more.

Study after study has shown that talking up your dogs is a great way to make a romantic connection.

Guaranteed she’ll be more likely to go out with you if you bring your dog along. Hitting on the dog park or going on a hike with your pooches is a super low-key, cheap, and fun way to meet someone for the first time.

Bonus points if she too has a dog.

And hey, worst case you two don’t connect at least your pooch will have made a new friend.

5) Out With The Old, In With The Claw

List out the many ways you’re bucking trends.

You no longer commute to work, binge Netflix, party on Fridays or take photos of the alcohol you drink.

Those are bygone times. Instead, you work at cafes, read books, party whenever you damn well please (so rarely, unless game night counts), and only take photos of your dope hikes.

This prompt is perfect for busting out a litany of reasons why you’re different from the standard Bumble gentleman.

Thus far all the answers have been dating-related, but that doesn’t need to be the case.

Feel free to step back from the romance of the app and talk about non-dating-related things you’re into (or used to be into).

Remember that Bumble’s all about showing her who you are.

If you can do that, you’re almost certain of finding a date.

6) A New Santa’s In Town

If you read the prompt fast enough you’ll probably miss the word “dating” and just read, “Old traditions are out” like I did when I first read this prompt.

If I misread it so did she.

Look the average woman spends 3 seconds looking at a profile before making a decision. Do you really think all the lovely ladies of Bumble are going to waste their precious time reading the prompt?

When it comes to responding to dating prompts you don’t have to play by the rules.

All that matters is standing out (in a good way).

With that said, if you want to write about old traditions that have nothing to do with dating, that’s fine.

7) A New Man Has Arrived

Women are tired of not being romanced. They’re tired of men putting in too little effort yet expecting the world.

They’re tired of guys not using dating apps like dating apps.

It’s rare that the ladies of Bumble go out with a match. It’s not that they don’t want to date, rather no one ever asks them out on a worthy date idea.

Paint of picture of what’s to come and dare her to pick up a brush.

Throw out a few first-date ideas and wait for someone to bite.

Regardless of how out there your ideas are, one is bound to connect with someone. And chances are that person that bites will be super compatible.

When in doubt use a prompt to say that you’re looking for a partner for some big event. E.g. “Anyone up for seeing John Mayer Friday?” or “Just looking for my billiards partner this Thursday.”

9) I Double Dog Dare You

As I mentioned, few men actually use dating apps for dating purposes.

A LendEDU study a while back found that the majority of college Tinder users weren’t on Tinder for romantic purposes.

Using the prompt, Old Dating Traditions Are Out. My New Tradition Is… gives you the perfect opportunity to talk about how serious you are about dating IRL.

Also, don’t be afraid to be playful.

This prompt response dares her to go out with you. Being a little edgy might just convince her to drag her thumb to the right.

The only mistake that was made in the above prompt response was offering up a dinner on a first date. Never Do That.

10) Let’s Get Messy

Calling all foodies!

Grabbing disgustingly delicious food on a first date is rarely a bad call (just make sure it’s 1 slice only on a first date. Again, no dinner dates allowed on first dates!)

Talk about your affinity for food and surely other foodies will flock your way.

Now that you know the best way to answer this Bumble prompt it’s time to write up an answer.

But don’t be hasty.

Write a draft, edit, send it to a friend, and write it again.
