Inspired by dating app Coffee Meets Bagel’s practice of providing you with a daily list of curated matches, Tinder’s Top Picks are algorithm-picked matches that Tinder thinks you’ll swipe right on.

You may have known what top picks on Tinder are for a while now, but you may not know how it works or how to get the most out of these hyper-coveted matches.

Let’s reveal a secret or two.

What Are Top Picks On Tinder?

Tinder Top Picks Explained

Launched in 2018, Tinder’s Top Picks is a daily list of profiles that Tinder’s algorithm thinks you’ll swipe right on.

Why does it think this?

Well, the algorithm takes into account your swiping habits, preferences, and the potential match’s ELO score.

In this way, no two users will have the same list of Top Picks.

Why Are Certain Top Picks Labeled?

If you open top picks you’ll notice that certain profiles have a shiny oh-so-clickable label slapped across the front.

You may be wondering how Tinder goes about labeling such profiles?

Labels are based on the information an algorithm can gather from a user’s profile.

Perhaps the user has written that they’re a doctor in their bio, or that they went to medical school, or that they wrote, “Orthopedic Doctor” as their occupation.

Both of those aren’t the only factors that contribute to someone being a Top Pick.

If you yourself have swiped right on previous profiles of medical professionals, Tinder will place a higher value on these profiles.

In this sense, you have the ability to craft your own algorithm-picked profiles through your swiping habits.

Why Does Top Picks Even Exist?

Tinder is by some distance the most-used dating app in the US.

This comes with both pros and cons.

One pro is that the more users the more options.

However, this same pro is also a negative. With more users to choose from comes the problem of over-choice and endless swiping.

To address the problem of swiping through a haystack to find “the one” Tinder decided to offer users a curated list of highly desirable women based on each user’s desirability criteria.

Instead of wading through the muck to find a compatible user, men now only need to skip on over to the Top Picks section.

But where exactly can these desirable women be found?

How To Access Top Picks

Assuming that you’re like every other guy you probably access Tinder via your phone.

If that’s the case, here’s how you find Top Picks on your phone.

Upon opening the app the swipe section will immediately open. Along the bottom of the app you’ll see four buttons.

You want to click the diamond with the number of women that have liked your profile.

That bar with the four buttons should look like this:

Again, you’ll want to click that second button from the left.

From there Tinder will bring you to the page displaying all the women that have liked your profile.

To view Top Picks you only need to click on the Top Picks button on the top right.

Do I Need To Pay Tinder To See Top Picks?

There are a number of features that Tinder offers for free.

With a free membership you’re able to view all your top picks, although you’re only allowed to swipe right on one every 24 hours.

That changes if you decide to purchase a gold or platinum membership.

As you can see 2/3 paid memberships offer access to Top Picks.

Tinder Gold and Platinum subscribers have the ability to swipe right on all their top picks daily. That being said they still refresh after every 24 hours. That means if you run out of profiles you’ll either have to wait or purchase more. Users also have the ability to super like these profiles regardless of their membership.

Do You Have a Chance At Matching?

What’s all this for anyway?

Is there any point in investing time into learning about Top Picks if you can’t actually match with any of them?

I’m not going to lie to you, matching with a top pick is difficult.

Just think about how difficult it is for a guy to match with any Tinder much less a super coveted one?

A 2016 study from Queen Mary University of London found that heterosexual male Tinder users have a success rate of .06%.

That’s, um, well, awful.

If you were to compare your profile with your female friend’s after one day on Tinder it might look something like this:

This happens for a few reasons.

For one, Tinder is a sausage fest. Some sites claim that as many as 78% of Tinder users are male. 

Because of the gender disparity, women realize that they can swipe out of their league. Allowing women to swipe out of their league (and still get a crap ton of matches) means that only the most attractive men get the lion’s share of matches. 

Let’s also acknowledge that women are naturally pickier than men.

It’s these two factors that make it so damn hard to scoop up a match on Tinder.

So if it’s difficult to get a “regular” match, why would you think you could possibly score a Top Pick?

Here’s why.

How To Score A Tinder Top Pick

I’d say that between 70-80% of all Tinder profiles are absolute garbage.

Perhaps I need to give you an image to help illustrate my point.

Killer here not only has a profile picture that would make you run for the hills but a bio to match. A woman couldn’t find a profile to swipe left on faster if she tried.

Oh wait… here’s a contender.

Bro… posing with a fish is more basic than writing, “I have no idea what I’m doing here” on your Tinder profile.

With an abundance of Daves and Rickys on Tinder, you’d think it’d be easier to find a match despite the gender disparity.

But what if, you’re also a Dave?

There’s no use in hoping and praying that you’ll get a match. The only way to do so is to pimp out your profile.

Here are a few tips to guide you.

As far as writing your bio is concerned here are few tips to keep in mind:

— Use keywords to attract certain types of users (and top picks)

— Be specific. If you like to travel tell her where you’ve been and where you plan on going

— Show don’t tell. “I like running,” “Last week I ran a 5k in 20 minutes”

— Be funny. Funny guys always win

— You have to write something!

— But not just anything. Always be positive!

Here are some things to keep in mind while creating a photo roster:

— Face must never be covered up

Women want to know what you look like.

So show her.

Your first profile shot needs to be a close-up HD headshot. The user gets major bonus points for having an insanely awesome background.

Photo 2: Full-Body

If the first photo shows her what you look like, the second should show her that you have all your limbs.

Bonus points if you’re smiling and dressed to impress. It’s easy to come off as douchey while dressed like a boss, however, you can quickly disarm any female user with a good smile as the man above does.

Photo 3: The Hobby Shot

Now that she knows what you look like she wants to know who you are. Show her by snapping a photo of your in your natural environment.

Photo 4: Show Off Your Pup

53% of Americans have pets, most of which are dogs. If you’re like so many other dog-owning Americans feel free to show off your pooch for some Tinder love.

What you need to keep in mind when chasing a top pick or any other Tinder user is that they have no idea who you are or what you look like.

It’s your job to address those gaps of knowledge by creating a dope profile that clearly shows her what you look like and what you’re about.
