Sure high schoolers use Chat GPT to write school essays, but AI has been a part of our lives even before the apocalyptic headlines went viral. 

We use AI whenever we open Google Maps, Netflix uses it to make content suggestions, and we use it every time we open our phone with Face ID.

AI has its hands in everything… including your romantic life.

To help singles wrap their heads around how AI is impacting their love lives, The Today recently contacted us for their investigation into AI and dating.

As you’ll see from the segment below, we’re not huge fans, but it’s more complicated than that.

What Is AI?

Let’s set things straight.

AI isn’t some plot for robots to take over the planet this isn’t The Matrix — yet.

AI stands for artificial intelligence.

Artificial intelligence is simply when computers perform tasks that humans typically perform. It is when humans program computers to perform tasks that once were only carried out by humans.

This however doesn’t mean that artificial intelligence is self-aware.

All AI we use now is known as weak, or narrow AI. Weak AI is used to carry out very specific tasks such as facial recognition software, recommendation engines, self-driving cars, and chatbots.

Strong AI on the other hand is in the theoretical stage. Once AI becomes strong, it also becomes self-aware, can solve problems by itself, learn, plan for the future, and have its own desires.

So what does all this robot intelligence mean for our dating lives?

Artificial Intelligence And Dating

Naturally, AI has already made waves in dating pools across the nation, but it isn’t even just singles that it’s impacted.

Nowadays you can even pay to have your own AI girlfriend. You can even pay this woman $1 a minute to be your (super short-term) girlfriend.

Having a computer as a girlfriend may sound odd but the woman above, who has lent her likeness and voice to create lonely men an AI girlfriend, already has over 1,000 monthly subscribers.

Men and women alike are turning to AI partners because they are lonely or struggle to form relationships with humans. An AI partner will be there when needed, will (almost) never start a fight, and remembers just about everything their partner has ever said.

Some find them to their liking, but the majority of us still want a living, breathing, and highly fallible human partner.

And to find one, many are turning to AI whether they know it or not.

Here are just a few ways AI is impacting your romantic life.

More Accurate Matchmaking

Matchmakers have hundreds of clients in their network.

Finding a compatible couple ain’t always easy. Naturally, some are turning to AI algorithms to comb through an ocean of data looking for key data points that suggest high compatibility.

Both matchmakers and dating apps are turning to these smart algorithms. Apps like Hinge, OkCupid, and Coffee Meets Bagel all provide you with AI-suggested matches.

Looks like Cupid has traded in his bow and arrow for Python.

Identifying Genitalia

Sure most apps use AI to authenticate profiles, but few are using it to identify the kind of features most users don’t want to see on a dating app.

Bumble for one is using AI they call, Private Detector to identify d*ck-picks. Bumble is one of the few apps that allow users to send photos. However, after introducing this feature, instead of snapping selfies of their smiling faces, male users decided to send dick pics. Spoiler: women don’t love this.

As a response, Bumble created an algorithm that can identify such pictures, prevent them from being seen by female users, and as a consequence ban the sender.

Chatting Her Up

If you’re too lazy, tired, inept, or time-strapped to have a conversation of your own, let AI do it for you.

Bots and programs like Jasper and Chat GPT are more than willing to lend a hand to help users chat with ladies online.

You can use your AI wingman to help generate openers, have conversations, or chat her up without you ever knowing a conversation ever happened.

It’s clear that artificial intelligence has a role to play in our dating lives.

There are clear positives like using AI to help prevent women from the horror of dick pics and grey areas such as AI girlfriends, and chatbots.

But as far as the tech that you can use to get ahead, should you really be using chatbots and Chat GPT to chat up women online?

Cupid Needs To Refine His Algorithm

Let’s first state the obvious.

Many singles think that AI can be a romantic panacea of sorts, helping all aspects of their dating lives.

This is wildly inaccurate.

AI can only be of assistance when you’re online.

The second you take that relationship into the real world, it’s all you.

But just because AI attempts to be of service when messaging women, does it really work?

In some cases, it certainly does (as evidenced by the photo above).

But have you used a chatbot or Chat GPT lately?

Chatbots are fickle, have minds of their own, and are cliche, while Chat GPT doesn’t use any information from the last year, requires diligent fact-checking, and needs meticulous and detailed direction if you hope to achieve the desired result.

I’d argue that the fine-tuning you need to invest in AI writing software is too burdensome to make it a worthy wingman.

Chat GPT messages shouldn’t be copied and pasted but perhaps the tool can be used to help you brainstorm opening messages.

However, this is where it should stop being of help. Once that initial message is sent, the conversation becomes too complex and human for AI to be of any timely assistance.

Instead of relying on AI to help you chat with women online, maybe all you need is to fine-tune your own internal algorithm.

With practice and the right guidance, you can master online conversation and retain agency over your online dating life.
