Bumble is all about putting women first.

Its founder and CEO is a woman, the app encourages women to break gender norms, and even requires them to message first… at least until now.

For the longest time what really set Bumble apart from every other app was that women had 24 hours to strike up a conversation or the match would disappear. The onus was 100% on the woman to initiate the conversation as men were unable to. This gave women the power to further choose who they want to chat with and how they want to start the dynamic.

But that all changed with Bumble’s newest feature, Bumble Compliments.

What Are Bumble Compliments?

A Bumble Compliment is much more than a regular old compliment.

After a match, most men choose to compliment a woman’s profile — but that’s not what we’re talking about.

Bumble Compliments give men the chance to send a message to a woman before matching.

When you see the profile of a woman you’re feeling, click on the heart on the left of her picture, bio, or prompt response.

Once clicked you’ll be able to send her a 150-character message.

Now that you’ve sent your Bumble Compliment, when your profile pops up in her feed she’ll be able to see that you’ve sent her a Bumble Compliment and be able to read your message.

Bumble claims that:

“Compliments have a statistically increased likelihood of matching and are more likely to have a good chat.”

I’d agree.

Anything you can do to humanize your profile and make you stand out, do it!

Once she reads your profile she has the option of liking you and matching or passing on your profile. If liked, she’ll still have 24 hours to respond before the match expires.

And if you’re thinking that sending a Compliment bumps you to the front of her queue sadly, you’re wrong.

How Much Do Bumble Compliments Cost?

In the real world being nice and giving someone a compliment doesn’t cost a damn thing.

That’s nice entirely the case with Bumble.

Bumble gives users one free Compliment every 24 hours.

Of course, you have the option of purchasing Compliments, but it’s going to cost you.

The price you pay depends on how many Compliments you purchase.

You can purchase 30 Compliments for as little as $2 each coming in at $60 total for 30 Compliments.

Of you can purchase as few as two Compliments for $6 a pop.

As you can see, Compliments can get expensive real quick.

So are Bumble compliments even worth it?

Well, that all depends on how quality a profile you have AND the quality of the message you’re sending.

The best opening messages are ones that pique her interest.

There are a number of ways to do that but my suggestion is to do so by commenting/asking a question about her profile.

This not only shows that you’ve read her profile but also that you genuinely want to get to know her and hints you two maybe even have something in common.

Of course, if she doesn’t give you good material to work with you can always just send her a witty message that will make you stand out.

Here are some real-life examples of Compliments we’d send after looking at some profiles.

1) Making Her Life More Grandiose

Kinda like Arnold Schwarzenegger in Kindergarten Cop except instead of being a cop when the bell rings, you drink fancy wine, pinkie out and sing karaoke… how accurate am I?

Comparing her life to that of a movie is rarely a bad call. What’s even better is when you use what she’s written to do so. This was an easy connection we were able to make to a classic movie.

The comparison is interesting, you DL call her a badass, and best of all it ends with a question.

Maybe you weren’t her type a minute ago, but she’ll at least respond to this message just because it’s so weird and thoughtful. When in doubt send a bold message that she’s bound to read.

The worst thing you can do is waste your free Compliment by sending her a basic hey message.

2) Make Her Laugh

I just watched a documentary about beavers… it was the best damn documentary I’ve ever seen!

Sure this joke may not be funny to you (hell it’s not even funny to me). The thing is she also wrote in her profile that she loves lame Dad jokes. This is one of the lamest I know so I can say I killed this Bumble Compliment example.

Remember to always tailor your comment to her profile if possible. I could have told her another joke or talked about how funny doing so would’ve turned my back on the personality hints she already gave me.

Most Bumble users want you to succeed. They give you the info you need to make them swoon — or to at least send an awesome Compliment.

3) Talk About Your Puppy

Not just any dog, but Lola, my newly adopted 2 yr-old-pitbull who is undefeated in staring contests and has no sense of personal space, what about you?

Studies on studies have shown that women love a man who has a dog. Maybe it’s something about a man being able to take care of a smaller more cuddly creature that makes women break down. Whatever it is, it works. Should you ever get a chance to talk about your dog, take it!

4) Karaoke!!

Does that mean we’re hitting karaoke this Friday? I need a duet partner for Summer Nights, people seem to get annoyed when I go falsetto to sing Newton-John’s part.

To be fair, this user didn’t leave me a lot to work with.

I could have said, “who do you listen to” or “have you heard Beyonce’s new record yet” but that would have been lame, slash, Beyonce’s super overrated; fight me.

Again, it’s all about standing out. If you need to be a little weird to do so, so be it.

LOL. Even better, I’ll love you as much as Americans love talking about how not American they are… and for the record, I freakin’ love Mr. Brightside.

First off, even if you don’t have the best response there are some women that demand responses. Maybe you can’t come up with something that’s 100% awesome, but damn was this woman worth responding to.

It’s rare to see someone showcasing their personality as effortlessly as this woman but she does it and does it magisterially.

For a little background, she’s also not white and is from Brazil. Foreigners always find it funny how Americans say, that they’re such and such when really they’re from Ohio.

It’s good enough for a laugh, a like, and possibly a date.

6) Dog Energy

Funny, I’m an introverted extrovert with German Shepard energy. Are we compatible or should we hit the dog park to find out?

Look, way too many people take online dating way too seriously.
