San Francisco Dating Ideas in the Cow Hollow District – Betelnut – Mauna Loa – Matrix Fillmore

Hey guys it’s EmLovz, your San Francisco Matchmaker and Online Dating Coach. This week I’ve got some killer ideas for dating in the Cow Hollow District of San Francisco.

Last Thursday was my boyfriend’s 32nd birthday and I wanted to take him out for a night on the town. We started with dinner at Betelnut Pejiu Wu (now closed as of 2016). If you haven’t been here yet, I’ll give you the run down. It’s an Asian style beer house that specializes in Southeast Asian cuisine. Nice spot for a date… here’s what I’d recommend it for:

A 3rd Date: ask the hostess to be seated in 1 of the 4 bar area tables. These tables are full service and very comfortable for two people. The tables are great for a third date because you can sit next to your date and face the bar area at the same time. Remember, it’s important on the first couple dates to sit right next to your date and NEVER across from him or her. Nobody wants to feel like they’re being interviewed.

After a drink at the bar, my boyfriend and I were seated in the middle of the first corridor. I DO NOT RECOMMEND SITTING HERE IF YOU’RE ON A DATE. There are about six small tables packed together side by side. It’s a great way to meet people if you’re out with a friend but it can be awkward if you just started seeing someone.

Also, if you’re seated on the booth side, when you have to get up to use the bathroom, there’s a total etiquette issue. Either your bum or your crotch is right in your neighbor’s food, as there’s about 2 inches on either side of the tables. If you’re a woman like me, who likes to wear those sexy lose rise jeans, you haven’t got much wiggle room to avoid plumber cracking your neighbor. Not hot, not comfortable, not cool. Make sure to secure a spot at the bar or in the back room.

Even though the seating was a bit tight, the food made up for it. We shared the Firecracker Shrimp, Calamari, Shrimp Fried Rice, and a great noodle dish. Everything was spicy-just the way we like it.

Ambiance-wise, Betelnut would be great for a double date. There are a bunch of good-sized tables in the back of the restaurant. However, the bathroom situation was not so bueno… When I went in it was freezing and messy, not an ideal environment for dropping trou.

After dinner, we decided to head out and meet up with friends at Mauna Loa. If you’re planning a date here, make sure and bring cash. No credit cards accepted.

Mauna Loa is not a great date spot. It’s more like a place you go with a group of friends. Guys love the foosball and mini-basketball hoop. There is also a pool table for all of you competitors out there. The bathrooms need a remodel- and I’ll leave it at that. ‘Course you might disagree with me on Mauna Loa if you’re under 25 years old. That seems to be the median age there.

A better spot to go for a date in the same area would be The Matrix Fillmore during the week or weekends before 8pm.

Heads-up Guys: If you’re a guy taking a date to Matrix on a weekend night after 8pm, your girl may get approached more than you like. If you are a gal and you accepted a date at Matrix after 8pm on a weekend… there’s a good chance your date’s a player or, even worse, a rookie!

If you’re hunting for the perfect spot for date #3 in San Francisco try Betelnut Pejiu Wu. Remember, sit at a table in the bar area next to your date. The food, ambiance, and staff were great.

So there it is…some dating ideas in the Cow Hollow district of San Francisco. Before you go…make sure and write a comment below and tell me about a great date you’ve had in the Bay Area…. or an awesome date-spot in the Cow Hollow.
